Zia and Acoma Pueblo

Yvonne Shije was born in 1961 and has been making pottery since 1971. She is a member of the Eagle Clan. She specializes in traditional handcoiled Large & Medium Water Jars, Ollas and bowls. She gathers the clay herself around the Reservation and uses all natural pigments for her paints. She learned from her mother Juanita C. Shije. Her mother is from the Acoma Pueblo and her father is from the Zia Pueblo. Other artists in her family include Lupe Aragon, Florence Aragon, Marie Ortiz, Marie Torivio, C.J. Shije, Theodora Galvan & Euesbia Shije. It is very hard to find Yvonne's work!
