Jemez Pueblo

Vernida Toya Chosa was born in 1973 and has been making pottery since 1985. She specializes in Storytellers, Nativity sets, Turtle Riders, Santa Storytellers and Friendship pots. She digs her clay from the Jemez Reservation, uses natural slips, natural paints and fires her pottery outdoors. She was taught by her grandmother Mary E. Toya and her mother Judy Toya. She is a member of the water clan, thus the squiggly line below her signature. She say, “I’ve been making pottery since I was in Elementary school and now I am making pottery full time”.
